The eldest son of embattled former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, Lloyd, has asked the federal high court sitting in Abuja to set aside the interim forfeiture order on the properties of his father.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, on November 4, following an ex-parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), ordered an interim forfeiture of 40 landed properties belonging to Ekweremadu.
The judge also ordered EFCC to publish the interim forfeiture order of the properties in the media within seven days from the date that the order was given, The Whistler reports.
The interim forfeiture order includes 10 of Ekweremadu’s properties in Enugu state, three in the United States of America (USA), two in the United Kingdom (UK), one in Lagos, nine in Dubai, and 15 located in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Lloyd was legally represented by Adegboyega Solomon Awomolo (SAN) at the court on Monday, December 5.
Awomolo decried the development, adding that EFCC commenced the action against his client in “bad faith.”
The senior lawyer also argued that “the facts in support of the ex-parte originating motion deliberately and fraudulently omitted very critical facts or evidence which negates the granting of the application.”
Moreso, the former deputy senate president’s son testified in the document that he is a shareholder in Power Properties Nigeria Limited, which was captured in the interim forfeiture order that was published on some national dailies.
However, the EFCC counsel, Sylvanus Tahir (SAN), told the court that he would need time to respond to his process as well as other interested parties.
Subsequently, Justice Ekwo adjourned the case till December 15.
Recall that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, on June 23, 2022, were arrested in the United Kingdom (UK) by London police, and charged with conspiracy for trafficking one David Ukpo to the country in order to harvest organs.
They were accused of trafficking Ukpo to the United Kingdom (UK) for the purpose of transplanting his organ to their daughter suffering from kidney failure.
In a turn of events, Ukpo told doctors he was 15 years old, and was coerced by the Ekweremadus into donating his kidney.
However, the federal government said that all its records show that Ukpo was not a minor, and was 21 years old.
