HURIWA Condemns Alleged Alliance Between Amosun Group, Ogun PDP candidate

Prominent civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), on Monday, condemned an alleged alliance between the camp of Senator Ibikunle Amosun and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Oladipupo Adebutu.

HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, in a statement described the alleged pact between both camps as broad daylight corruption and political connivance to perpetually subjugate the masses.

According to reports, Adebutu, and the former governorship candidate under the platform of the Allied Progressive Movement in the 2019 elections, Adekunle Akinlade, reached an alliance agreement as regards the 2023 Ogun State governorship polls to “concede the position of deputy governor, Ogun West Senatorial ticket, two State House of Assembly Tickets (Ogun Central) to Akinlade and his APM group”.

Upon emergence as the winner of the elections, Adebutu is required, by the alliance agreement, to concede seven substantive commissioner slots, 15 special adviser slots, 20 senior special assistant slots, 20 special assistant slots, five statutory board chairman slots and five local government executive chairman slots.

The agreement was deposed to by an oath at the High Court of Ogun State, Abeokuta, dated September 16, 2022.

However, ex-Ogun State governor (Amosun) on Monday denied striking a deal with the Adebutu.

Commenting, HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “The kind of agreement between Amosun’s group and Adebutu is condemnable and should be probed by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The pact by politicians to share offices is clear evidence that these politicians are in politics for their selfish ends and not about service to the people.

“Recall that a popular governor in the South-South recently said the leadership of his party are already sharing positions even though the elections have not been held. This shows the desperation and self-centred pursuit of politicians.

“HURIWA therefore warns Nigerians to wake up and watch their political office seekers who will be starting campaigns officially on Wednesday to be sure that the electorate make the best and wisest choices given the devastating economic environment that the largely incompetent, corrupt, rotten and tyrannical federal government and most state governors have led us into.

“The electorate must never allow themselves to be bought over unless they want Nigeria to sink further inan fo irredeemable pit of misfortune. This election of 2023 is the last chance Nigerians have to save their Country from imminent collapse.”
